Why Does Skin Wrinkle With Age? What Is The Best Way To Slow Or Prevent This Ageing Process?
For many people, wrinkles, crow's feet, frown lines and sometimes sunken cheeks or drooping eyelids, are an unforgiving reminder of old age and the ravages of time. For some people, the evidence of time in the form of lines,
can be psychologically difficult to deal with.
Generally speaking, a wrinkle is a fold, ridge or crease in the skin. Skin wrinkles typically appear as a result of aging processes such as glycation or, temporarily, as the result of
prolonged (more than a few minutes) immersion in water. Wrinkling in the skin is caused by habitual facial expressions, aging, sun damage, smoking, poor hydration, and various other factors. Depletion of water in the body, as occurs with dehydration,
can also cause this puckering of the skin.
Prevention is key to minimizing wrinkles. In the words of Professor Dr. Susan Obagi, "The most important thing is to take care of your skin before all these changes start to take place. Sun protection against both UVA and UVB rays is critical 365 days
a year using an SPF of at least 35: I prefer zinc- or titanium-based products. After the age of 25 I recommend using Retin-A (a vitamin A derivative that uses the generic name tretinoin) as an antiaging cream. It is a prescription agent that has been used for more than 30 years
with a safe track record and excellent results. In the first two or three months patients may experience redness, peeling and flaking, but should then noticed a marked improvement. Over time tretinoin improves fine lines, the appearance of pores,
precancerous changes, and brown spots. If tretinoin treatment is not enough, then medium depth chemical peels and some non-invasive lasers can help build collagen and thus improve the skin's appearance".

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA)?
Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTX-A) or BOTOX® Cosmetic for short; is a prescription medicine. Pharmacologically, it is a purified toxin and, when injected in very tiny amounts into a specific facial muscle, the targeted impulse of the relevant muscle is blocked, causing a local relaxation and weakness.
In this way, botulinum toxin acts as an impulse blocker, thus immobilizing the relevant muscle or muscles; this being the underlying cause of the unwanted lines or facial wrinkles.
BOTOX® was originally documented by a plastic surgeon from Sacramento, California, Dr. Richard Clark, and published in the journal
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 1989. Subsequently, Canadian husband and wife, ophthalmologist and dermatologist physicians Carruthers JD and Carruthers JA, were the first to publish a study on BTX-A for the treatment of glabellar frown lines in 1992. Similar effects had
reportedly been observed by a number of independent groups (Brin, and the Columbia University group).
After formal trials, on April 12, 2002, America's powerful Food & Drug Administration (FDA), announced regulatory approval of botulinum toxin type A (Botox Cosmetic) to treat temporarily,
moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). Subsequently, cosmetic use of botulinum toxin type A has become widespread with many celebrities viewing it as less intrusive and artificial than other types of plastic surgery. The results of cosmetic procedures
vary but can last up to eight months.
According to Allergan, the manufacturer of BOTOX® Cosmetic, since receiving FDA approval in 2002, there has not been a single confirmed serious case of spread of toxin effect away from the injection site when BOTOX® has been used at the recommended dose to treat chronic migraine, or when BOTOX® Cosmetic
has been used at the recommended dose to treat frown lines. Nevertheless, BTX is a toxin, and BOTOX® and BOTOX® Cosmetic, could potentially cause serious side effects. Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you experience any problems any time (hours to weeks) after
injection of BOTOX® and BOTOX® Cosmetic:- i.e. Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles.

What Are Chemical Peels?
Chemical Peels or Chemexfoliation, is a non-invasive aesthetics technique, used to improve and smooth the texture of facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel off. The procedure ‘peels’ away the top layers of the epidermis in order to improve
conditions such as acne, irregular pigmentation or wrinkles. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.
Some types of chemical peels can be purchased and administered without a medical license, however people are advised to seek professional help from a
dermatologist, facial aesthetics practitioner or plastic surgeon on a specific type of chemical peel before a procedure is performed. Generally, fair-skinned and light-haired patients are ideal candidates for chemical peels. Darker skin types may also have good results, depending upon the type of problem
being treated. However, the risk of an uneven skin tone after the procedure is increased.
There are different kinds of chemical agents used for chemical peels, however broadly speaking, they fall into the following four categories:-
Generally speaking, chemical peels are used to treat the following skin conditions:-

What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are collagen made either from either synthetic or natural substances, and are injected into the dermis or skin for the purpose of augmenting soft tissues (e.g. typically lips and the cheeks) or to reverse, albeit temporarily, signs of skin ageing such as deep troughs, skin folds or creases.
Consequently, the central purpose of dermal fillers, is to return the skin to its original condition: i.e. elastic, youthful, and smooth in appearance. In fact, depending on a combination of factors such as skin type, the kind of dermal fillers used and experience of the medical professional managing the treatment,
it is not unusual for fillers to give an appearance that is smoother and more natural compared to a surgical facelift!
Juvederm™ and Restylane™, the two leading dermal fillers on the market, are of the Hyaluronic Acid type. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide, and is present in connective tissues found in all living organisms, humans included. As a result,
adverse immune reactions to either are rare. Additionally, Hyaluronic Acid attracts water molecules, serving not only as a skin moisturizer but a lubricant as well.
Juvederm™ and Restylane™ are non-animal dermal fillers and both are approved by the FDA; the American government agency for health and food products. Although there are minor technical differences in the two products, both are highly effective and can last
up to 6 months after treatment, when used for lip augmentation and shaping or to pump up the skin's volume to eliminate skin creases.
